PUBG Mobile and G2 Esports Forge Strategic Alliance to Ignite Western European Mobile Esports Scene

The burgeoning potential of mobile esports in Western Europe is poised for a significant uplift following a strategic collaboration announced in June 2026 between PUBG Mobile, a titan of the battle royale genre, and G2 Esports, a globally recognized European esports organization. This partnership, initiated with the PMGO Western Europe Wildcard tournament, aims to leverage G2’s extensive marketing acumen and brand recognition to cultivate a more robust and engaged competitive landscape for PUBG Mobile within the region. While G2 boasts a formidable presence across various traditional esports titles like Rainbow Six Siege and CS2, its entry into the PUBG Mobile competitive arena is not marked by the formation of a dedicated team. Instead, the organization intends to harness its established fanbase and cross-promotional capabilities to introduce a new demographic to the free-to-play mobile game’s vibrant esports ecosystem.

The genesis of this ambitious venture was underscored by recent high-profile events, including the PUBG Mobile World Championships (PMWC) held in Paris in 2026, a significant shift from its recent residency in Riyadh. This relocation to a European hub signifies a concerted effort to bring major international esports spectacles closer to a Western European audience, thereby enhancing visibility and accessibility. Following this pivotal event, Pocket Tactics secured an exclusive interview with key figures driving this collaboration: Alban Dechelotte, CEO of G2 Esports, and Sivan Chen, Publishing Director of PUBG Mobile. Their insights reveal a shared vision for nurturing mobile esports’ growth, particularly in a region where PC and console gaming have historically dominated.

The Strategic Imperative: Bridging Worlds and Building Futures

The partnership between G2 Esports and PUBG Mobile stems from a mutual recognition of untapped potential and complementary strengths. Alban Dechelotte articulated G2’s motivation, highlighting the nascent yet immense growth prospects of mobile esports in Western Europe. "Mobile esports is still relatively small in Western Europe, but the potential is huge," Dechelotte stated. "You only have to look at Asia to see what the scene can become, and PUBG Mobile has built one of the biggest and most established esports ecosystems in the world. For us, partnering with a team that already understands how to build at that scale made a lot of sense."

G2’s decade-long experience in community building, content creation, and esports operations is seen as a critical asset. This expertise is expected to synergize with PUBG Mobile’s deep understanding of mobile competition and ecosystem development. "G2 brings a decade of experience in building communities, creating content, and operating across esports, while PUBG Mobile brings deep expertise in mobile competition and ecosystem growth," Dechelotte elaborated. "Those strengths complement each other really well. It means we can look beyond a traditional partnership and actually help build the scene, including through 62, our media house, which is supporting the 2026 PMCO Western Europe across tournament operations, broadcast, and social."

Sivan Chen echoed this sentiment, emphasizing PUBG Mobile’s global success and the specific opportunity in Western Europe. "PUBG Mobile has developed a thriving global ecosystem; however, the mobile esports scene is still building in Western Europe," Chen explained. "G2 has a decade of experience in growing an expansive community, which is a natural fit for PUBG Mobile’s huge player base as the most-watched battle royale esports with a peak concurrent viewership of 3.8 million viewers. A partnership made sense in our journey to expand in Western Europe and forge a dedicated community when considering G2’s industry knowledge."

The strategic alignment is further evidenced by G2’s utilization of its marketing and media arm, 62, to bolster the PMCO Western Europe. This involvement spans critical areas such as tournament operations, broadcast production, and social media engagement, indicating a hands-on approach rather than a superficial endorsement.

PUBG Mobile and G2 both agree that "grassroots competition is essential"

A Paradigm Shift: Paris Hosts the PMWC 2026

The decision to relocate the PUBG Mobile World Championships (PMWC) from Riyadh to Paris for its 2026 iteration marks a significant moment for the Western European esports landscape. This geographical shift is more than symbolic; it represents a strategic move to enhance accessibility and visibility for a European audience.

"For a European-rooted organisation like G2, bringing a major global competition such as PMWC closer to European fans is a really positive step," observed Dechelotte. "It makes the esport more visible and accessible here, and gives people the chance to experience the scale and atmosphere of PUBG Mobile Esports first-hand. That matters if you want to build long-term fandom in a region where mobile esports is still developing."

The impact of this move was palpable, with the 2026 PMWC in Paris drawing an impressive viewership. Sivan Chen reported, "The 2026 PMWC was a monumental event for us, with over 1.79 million viewers, the highest peak concurrent viewership we’ve seen for a PUBG Mobile Esports event in the past five years." This record-breaking viewership underscores the growing appetite for mobile esports in Europe and validates the strategic decision to host major events in the region. Chen added, "The global community has clearly embraced PUBG Mobile Esports wholeheartedly, and we’re keen to provide more chances for Western European fans to get involved with the action directly. With many esports teams already rooted in Europe, the 2026 PMWC coming to Paris was a step towards growing the European mobile esports ecosystem further, and we’re continuing to build more opportunities for European and nearby fans to experience the atmosphere of a PUBG Mobile Esports tournament in person."

This geographical decentralization of major esports events has broader implications for the industry. It suggests a growing maturity in Western European markets, moving beyond the traditional strongholds of Asia and North America. The increased proximity and accessibility can foster deeper fan engagement, encourage local talent development, and attract greater investment into the mobile esports sector within Europe.

The Foundation of Growth: Championing Grassroots Esports

A cornerstone of PUBG Mobile’s esports strategy, and a key area of focus for the G2 partnership, is the emphasis on grassroots tournaments. This commitment to nurturing talent from the ground up is considered vital for the long-term sustainability and expansion of any competitive ecosystem.

"Grassroots competition is essential if you want an esports ecosystem to last," emphasized Dechelotte. "You need a clear path for new players to go from competing locally to seeing a genuine route towards the top level. PUBG Mobile understands that really well, which is why investment in competitions like PMCO matters alongside the Tier 1 events. For us, being involved in PMCO Western Europe through 62 is also a chance to contribute directly to that pathway, not just talk about growing the ecosystem from the sidelines."

Sivan Chen reinforced this perspective, framing grassroots tournaments as the fundamental building blocks of the entire esports structure. "Grassroots tournaments are the foundation everything else is built on," Chen stated. "These events provide opportunities to discover hidden talent and allow players to establish lasting connections with their local community. Plenty of the players competing on some of our biggest stages now started in these local and regional events, as they have a pathway integrated into PUBG Mobile’s goal of becoming the most participated esports ecosystem in the world. It’s incredibly important for us to allow players of all levels to get involved, naturally creating communities that love to watch and play PUBG Mobile."

PUBG Mobile and G2 both agree that "grassroots competition is essential"

The strategic importance of grassroots initiatives cannot be overstated. They serve as a vital talent pipeline, identifying and developing promising players who can eventually compete at the highest professional levels. Furthermore, these community-focused events foster a sense of belonging and loyalty among players and fans, creating a sustainable ecosystem that extends beyond professional leagues. The integration of amateur and professional circuits, as seen with PUBG Mobile’s approach, is a proven model for building enduring esports communities.

Cultivating Influence: The Ambassador Program and Content Creators

Recognizing the pivotal role of influential personalities in bridging the gap between competitive gaming and broader cultural engagement, PUBG Mobile and G2 Esports have launched an ambassador program. The selection of JanicaGaming as the inaugural ambassador for Western Europe highlights a strategic approach to authentic community engagement.

"JanicaGaming has been part of the PUBG Mobile community for years, so there is already real trust and credibility there – that’s important," explained Dechelotte. "If you want to introduce more people to an esport, you need creators who genuinely understand the game and whose communities believe in them. JanicaGaming gives us exactly that in Western Europe."

The ambassador program is designed to harness the reach and relatability of popular content creators to introduce new audiences to PUBG Mobile Esports. These creators act as conduits, translating the excitement and intricacies of professional play into accessible and engaging content for a wider audience.

Chen confirmed plans for expansion, stating, "As for expansion, yes, we see real potential to grow the program further across Europe. JanicaGaming is the first creator of this initiative, and we think she’s a strong model for what we’re looking for. That is, someone deeply embedded in the community who can bring new audiences into the PUBG Mobile Esports world authentically."

Dechelotte further elaborated on the significance of content creators in the modern esports landscape: "Content creators are modern-day celebrities, but more importantly, they are often the bridge between a competitive scene and the wider culture around it. They can make esports feel more accessible and entertaining to people who may never have watched a tournament before." This perspective underscores the understanding that building a robust esports ecosystem requires not only competitive infrastructure but also compelling narrative and relatable personalities.

Addressing the Western European Lag: Perceptions and Potential

Despite the global ubiquity of mobile gaming, Western Europe has historically lagged behind regions like Asia in terms of mobile esports adoption and recognition. Both Dechelotte and Chen offered insights into the underlying reasons for this disparity.

PUBG Mobile and G2 both agree that "grassroots competition is essential"

"Western Europe has historically been a PC and console-first market, so mobile has had to compete with platforms and habits that have been established here for decades," Dechelotte observed. "In many Asian markets, mobile became a much more accessible entry point into gaming earlier, so competitive mobile gaming has naturally had more time and space to grow." This historical context of platform preference and established gaming cultures presents a significant hurdle.

Beyond platform dominance, lingering perceptions about the seriousness and competitiveness of mobile gaming also play a role. "There are also still perceptions in the West that mobile gaming is somehow less competitive or less serious," Dechelotte noted. "That is exactly the kind of perception we have an opportunity to change. The quality of the competition is already there; the challenge is getting more people to experience it, understand it, and build a connection with the players and teams involved."

The collaborative efforts between PUBG Mobile and G2 Esports are directly aimed at dismantling these outdated perceptions. By showcasing high-level competition, fostering accessible entry points through grassroots initiatives, and leveraging the influence of creators, the partnership seeks to cultivate a new era of mobile esports enthusiasm in Western Europe. The recent PMWC in Paris and the ongoing support for the PMCO Western Europe represent tangible steps in this direction, promising a future where mobile esports in the region can achieve the same prominence seen in other global markets.

The author’s personal experience attending the PMWC 2026 in Paris further underscored the transformative power of live esports events. The palpable energy and exceptional skill displayed by players offered a profound insight into the burgeoning world of mobile esports. This firsthand encounter serves as a testament to the potential of the G2 and PUBG Mobile partnership to cultivate a dedicated and passionate fanbase within Western Europe.
